What is one of or some of your biggest challenges with your CCD (Corpus Callosal Disorder)
I sort of knew when l was a young child that there was something wrong with my brain. When l got to high school my world, as l knew it, changed. I had trouble with my school work because l couldn’t put pen to paper at all and it took me longer to process stuff as well. Getting others to understand me and what l have been going through since l was born has been difficult. Having a major car accident early 2006 changed my world again. It also presented challenges for me to overcome.
What do you like doing?
Dancing, listening to music, watching movies, driving my ute and connecting with others.
What/ who are your main supports for you with your DCC?
No one as l had to do it all by myself. l look so damn normal on the outside, like a normal person. I get a lady to come to my home once a week to help me tidy up my house. My husband is away working a lot and my 2 kids are over 18. At times they do not understand what my DCC means to me or even them.
What do you do with your days?
Depending on how l feel each day, I could be sleeping most of the day. I drive into town to check the mail and go to IGA. I even drop my daughter off and pick her up from work.
What are your interests?
Hard to say and I can’t put it too words.
What is something unique/special about you BECAUSE of your DCC, or otherwise?
I was told years ago by one of my Facebook friends that l am Special Unique & Love-able. Back then l sort of didn’t understand what it meant as l was in a number of groups.
Also, when l see an odd post l put my two bobs worth in, plus helping others to make their day better.
Do you have any pets? Tell me about them.
One dog named, Bella she is nearly 8 years old.
Our black and white cat name Fluffy, she is nearly 15 years old. Our male ginger cat Name Wesley, he is 2 years old.
If you could give one bit of advice to a child with a DCC who asked you for support, what would you tell them?
To be themselves. To watch and learn what is going on around you as there is going to be a lot more ups and downs and challenges to come. I was never really told about my conditions until much later in my life, when l was in my early 30’s.
If you could give one bit of advice to your child SELF to make things different/ easier, what would it be?
Just be oneself watch and learn how others interact with each other and ask questions.
What is your favorite song, band, singer (or all of these) and why?
Wham, Barnes and his old band, Rocksett, 70’s, 80’s, 90’s and 00’s. l have way too many to put down. It was the sound of the music and the words put together to produce a song. Powerful wording and brilliant sounds can take a person to another place or time.
Do you have any siblings? Tell me about them.
Well l am the 2nd and oldest daughter. l have an older brother David, who is 18 months older than me. Then l have a younger Sister Kellie, who is 4 years younger than me. My baby Brother Nathan is 10 years younger than me and we don’t talk much anymore.
Was there anything you wished you would be or do when you grew up? Has it happened?
Well yes, l got married 21 years ago and l also had 3 children. l thought neither would happen when l was growing up.
What is your favorite movie or TV show (or both) and why?
Snowflakes, A-Team, Night Rider. I just have too many to think of, it’s hurting my brain too put them all in.
